It has been a while since we've published a blog post -- sorry, friends! With the start of a new academic year, a new job for Damien, and continued wedding planning for Simone, we have both been a bit swamped lately. But we have definitely missed our blog and are excited to be back! At the very end of August we ventured out into Washington, DC for brunch at Boqueria. Boqueria is located in the Dupont neighborhood of DC on M St. NW and is a very popular restaurant that offers fresh Spanish tapas. We are grateful that we had a reservation for brunch, as it was packed when we arrived and was busy for the entire time that we were there. We would highly recommend making a reservation if you decide to check this place out for brunch. Boqueria has two options for brunch: a Bottomless Brunch option and an A La Carte brunch option. We opted to partake in Boqueria's bottomless brunch.
Our Review:
Since Boqueria offers tapas style dishes for brunch and we shared everything, it made sense to combine our review this time. Boqueria is perfect for a festive, unique, and delicious brunch outing. And they have outdoor seating, too! We opted to sit inside because nobody has time for allergies and bugs. We sat at a high table that had padded seating and a tall chair. Damien opted for the chair and Simone took the padded seating--the padded seat was so comfy! We had a really nice server who was pretty attentive overall; however, he was a bit swamped given how busy it was so we didn't see him too much throughout our brunch.
The food was amazing! The Patatas Bravas (potatoes) were one of our favorite things because there was a hidden sauce underneath the potatoes which brought a little bit of spice to the dish. The Macarrones de la Yaya (macaroni and cheese) was wonderfully cheesy and gooey and had excellent flavor. We also really enjoyed the Albóndigas (meatballs)--the meatballs were made with lamb and cooked perfectly, and the sheep's milk cheese sauce drizzled on top of the meatballs was divine. We then had the Huevos con Chorizo, because we are both big fans of chorizo. Boqueria makes their own chorizo (and they do a bang-up job!), and this dish was creamy, spicy, and delicious. We were a bit split in our review of the Revuelto de Calabacín (soft scramble)--Simone was unimpressed but Damien thought it was decent. However, we could both agree that it was our least favorite dish of the meal and so we didn't take a picture of it. But the Torrija? The Torrija (French toast) was so delicious that it disappeared before we had time to take a picture of it. If you visit Boqueria for brunch, you have to get their French toast. Finally, we enjoyed the Churros con Chocolate as our dessert. Simone really loved this dish and would like for it to be served to her daily.
No brunch would be complete without a drink, especially when you are at a bottomless brunch! Simone had their Sangria of the Day, which was a lemon sangria. It was light, not too sweet, and delicious. Damien ordered the Sangria Rosada and it was really tasty. We both plan to go back once the warm weather returns--these drinks would be perfect for sitting out on their outdoor patio.
Overall, we would give Boqueria a 4 out of 5. Almost all of the food that we had was really delicious, but there was one dish (the Revuelto de Calabacín) that fell a bit short. The restaurant is a bit pricey, so Boqueria may be a good option for a special occasion as opposed to just a random or spontaneous visit. The service we received was decent, but because the restaurant was so busy, there were a few times when we felt a big neglected. But overall, we had a delicious time and would totally go back. Until next time--which we hope will be sooner rather than later--we hope you enjoy a great meal today!
