#TBT Restaurant Review: Iron Rooster

Last October, we enjoyed a great weekend visit by our close college friend, Martin. When the three of us are together, you can bet there is trouble nearby. We wanted to go somewhere special for dinner, and absolutely lucked out with our choice of Iron Rooster in Annapolis, MD. Although this restaurant wasn't on our "list", we wanted to give it a shout-out on our blog because it deserves one!

Simone's Review:

On this cold autumn night, my fiancĂ© (hi Joe!) and I had just finished shooting our engagement photos in Annapolis and met Martin and Damien at the restaurant. One of two people recommended Iron Rooster to me--it was either my friend, Sara, or our wedding photographer, Jenn Casey. Once we entered the restaurant, we were immediately greeted by warm and friendly staff. The place is a little bit tight in terms of space, but it's cozy. We were quickly escorted to our table on the second floor. The menu was perfect for anyone like me who can eat breakfast for any meal of the day. We decided to order two appetizers that Damien will tell you about below (spoiler alert--they were great!). I had the Waffle Burger for my entree. I rarely eat beef but when I do, I love a good burger. The Waffle Burger was an excellent, juicy burger on a waffle bun topped with my choices of bacon and pepper jack cheese, along with lettuce, tomato, and garlic aioli. I requested my burger with a side of hash browns instead of french of fries, which was an amazing decision. Iron Rooster offers a daily homemade pop tart, but on this evening they were out of pop tarts causing a piece of my heart to break. In better news, Iron Rooster has an ample beer and cocktail menu. I would recommend Bold Rock Cider--it is light and if you like Angry Orchard you will like Bold Rock, too.

Damien's Review:

As you can probably tell at this point, Iron Rooster was really, really good. I also had the Waffle Burger for my main course and Simone definitely did it justice. If you like burgers, you won't be disappointed with Iron Rooster's Waffle Burger. In terms of our appetizers, the Fried Green Tomato Stack was wonderful. The tomatoes were perfectly battered and not greasy at all. They were topped with tasty Boursin cheese, fresh and homemade corn salsa, and a delicious garlic aioli. Everything about those tomatoes was perfect. They definitely rank up there as some of the best I've ever had. The Warm Monkey Bread was also really yummy--it was warm, gooey, and sweet (but not overly sweet at all). If you are a fan of fried green tomatoes or monkey bread, you won't be disappointed at all.

Our Review:

Overall, we would give Iron Rooster a 5 out of 5. Although that is a perfect score, parking is really tight and might be a bit of a hassle depending on when you go. But otherwise, there's isn't much else wrong with this great restaurant. We would highly recommend Iron Rooster as a delicious spot to check out for any meal, any day. Simone recently went back for her fiancé's and future mother-in-law's birthdays and it was another delicious trip. Damien is planning to check out their Baltimore location sometime this summer while visiting family. Two awesome things to note about Iron Rooster are 1) the all-day breakfast option, and 2) if you mention Iron Rooster on social media, they give you a free mason jar of bacon. Amazing, right?! Until next time, treat yourself to a great meal soon!

Dinner at Duke's

We ushered in the month of November with a trip down to the Dupont Circle neighborhood of Washington, D.C. to check out Duke's Grocery for a #HappyTummyList dinner. Simone had purchased a new car a few weeks prior to our outing, so we used this trip as an outlet to drown her sorrows about having a car note once again. But at least we drove into D.C. in style, right?! We also had lots to catch up on---Simone and Joe had recently come back from an amazing trip to Mexico for a friend's wedding, and Damien had just performed a wedding ceremony for close friends up in Baltimore. And Duke's, which considers itself a "neighborhood pub and supper spot" with influences from East London, was a great place for this occasion. Per usual, we started our evening with some drinks and appetizers. We have to do these things for the blog! Simone ordered the Moscow Mule, and Damien had a Founder's All Day I.P.A. The Moscow Mule was chilled, refreshing, and delicious, but it w

Going Back in Time to Estadio

Happy New Year! We hope that you had a wonderful holiday season and the new year is off to an incredible start for you and your loved ones. It's 2019, and we are looking forward to and are excited about more blog adventures this year! But before we get out to our first #HappyTummyList restaurant of the new year, we wanted to publish a leftover post from a fantastic restaurant that we visited towards the end of last year. We know, we know...but listen, we promise to be better about this in 2019! Fall was in high bloom during our visit to Estadio for brunch back in late October of last year. We love the season in between spring and winter because it is the time of fall foliage, beautiful colors, hot apple cider, and comfort food. We made our way out in the rain to the Logan Circle neighborhood of Washington, DC to check out Estadio, which is a contemporary Spanish restaurant known for its small plates. Estadio made its way onto our radar because it has been noted for its brunch b

Restaurant Review: Takoda Restaurant & Beer Garden

Summer is slowly winding down and we can't believe it. Fortunately, these are the perfect days to enjoy some of the best things about summer and the DMV, and one of those things is brunch. On the very last day of July we ventured into Washington, DC to enjoy brunch at Takoda , which is located at the beginning of the U Street corridor on 7th Street and Florida Avenue NW. Upon entering Takoda, we ventured upstairs to the main dinning area to be seated. There is a beautiful beer garden and roof top area for drinks and food as well, but it was too hot and humid outside so we opted for the downstairs dining area instead. If you enjoy the outdoors, a beautiful city view, and fresh air, then grab a seat upstairs on the rooftop which is open year-round - it is definitely beautiful up there! Simone's Review: Our waitress was incredibly sweet and offered us the Mimosa specials when we sat down. The mimosas are half priced ($6) during brunch, so we opted for individual mimosas versu
