Our Seafood Brunch Adventure in The Cold

Over the course of the past month, the weather in the DMV area managed to tease us with summer-like temperatures followed by quick shifts to dreadful and bitter cold. The brief spell of warm weather we had in mid-February served as the catalyst that inspired us to get seafood for our most recent adventure. As you probably know by now, both of us really love seafood; hence, we decided to venture down to Washington, DC's Navy Yard neighborhood earlier this month for some seafood brunch action on a sunny but (very) chilly Sunday morning. Our brunch destination was  Whaley's , a fantastic seafood and raw bar restaurant located on Water Street SE. If you haven't checked out this section of the Navy Yard neighborhood yet, we would highly recommend it, especially for its many restaurants, attractions, and great views of the Anacostia River. Whaley's is located right off the water and would a great place for friends coming together to enjoy some seafood or for a beautiful da...

We Cooked Something Yummy!

Winter is here, and it is the best time to hibernate and embrace being a homebody. Back in late January, we got together to enjoy a chill Friday night as we were gearing up for the start of the new academic semester. And of course we had to do it for the blog! So we decided to try our hand at a homemade Shrimp Dip and "Lose Your Shoes" Margaritas. The Garlicky Shrimp Dip was featured on Delish's Facebook page, and the "Lose Your Shoes" Margaritas were a gift from Pinterest. The Garlicky Shrimp Dip has a very simple recipe to follow. The shrimp are seasoned with salt, pepper, and minced garlic before being quickly cooked in a skillet pan. Then, the cooked shrimp are chopped up and combined with cream cheese, mayonnaise, parsley, lemon zest and juice, mozzarella cheese, and Parmesan cheese. And then the dip is then baked in the oven. After what felt like hours (we were starving!), the dip was ready to eat....and it was delicious! The combination of flavors wor...

Winter Break Adventure at PassionFish

Winter Break is always a glorious time for us since we work at a university. It is a great opportunity for us to check out a new restaurant on a food adventure and relish in our time off from work, and this Winter Break was no different. At the end of December, we ventured to Bethesda, MD to have lunch at PassionFish Bethesda . The restaurant is located on the corner of Woodmont Avenue and Bethesda Avenue, across the street from the Barnes & Nobles store on Bethesda Row. PassionFish is a pretty large restaurant with a rather chic and modern decor, so it definitely is a good option for a special occasion or a date if seafood is your jam. When we arrived, there weren't too many people at the restaurant, but over the course of our time there it actually got pretty packed. Because we were on vacation, ordering cocktails was a must. We decided to order from their Speciality Cocktails list---Simone had the Hurricane and Damien had the Kentucky Sunset. The Kentucky Sunset was absol...

Ciao! The Red Hen Restaurant Adventrue

Ciao Bella! For our adventure earlier this month, we decided to try  The Red Hen restaurant, located in the cozy Bloomingdale neighborhood of Washington, DC. The restaurant is situated on the corner of the street (at 1st St and Seaton Pl NW) and almost impossible to miss. One of the fascinating things about The Red Hen is that they only save a few of their tables for reservations for parties of up to 8 people, so keep that in mind if you plan to check this place out. On this beautiful and cold Friday night we sprinted from work and arrived there at 5:25pm, which was perfect because the restaurant opened at 5:30pm. There was a small group of hungry folks waiting outside for the restaurant to open, which was entertaining until we felt that brisk wind in our faces. As soon as the restaurant opened their doors, we were immediately welcomed by a friendly hostess and sat down at table with really heavy chairs (both of us found it incredibly funny that the chairs were so heavy). After s...

We Cooked Again -- Slow Cooker Jambalaya

It has been a while since our last post, but so much has happened! Simone is now a married woman! Simone and Joe tied the knot in earlier this month and are now Mr. and Mrs.! The wedding ceremony was beautiful, and the reception was a really great time. Now that things are mostly back to reality, we are excited to get back to our blog! Our next adventure is a couple of weeks away, so until then, we wanted to share another recipe with you that you may want to make at home. And the best part of this recipe? It is easy, delicious, and all of the cooking is done by the crockpot! This blog post is all about Slow Cooker Jambalaya. We both really enjoy jambalaya; and in fact, it is one of Simone's favorite dishes. Simone is a subscriber to Budget Bytes and received a Slow Cooker Jambalaya  recipe one day and could not resist! After reviewing the recipe, Simone decided to add two more boneless, skinless chicken thighs because hunger is real. This recipe yielded a lot more food than exp...
